Upside Down, Left To Right: A Letterpress Film

Typography plays such an important role here at Toi. Often times, many young designers or print designers don’t have a strong grasp of typography on the digital front, when the same principles apply from the early stages of type and letterpressing.

Without preaching too much about the past, this quick film about letterpressing by Danny Cooke is definitely enlightening.

Dave

Where?

Los Angeles, USA

Overview

The Toi shop is a design wonderland in the North Pole (actually Valencia) where designers work and listen to cool spotify playlists. We are crazy lucky; we always get to work on cool projects. You will have the opportunity to enjoy industry recognition and meet cool [slash] famous, people [slash] clients.

What does it mean to be a Senior Designer in the Toi shop?

In the words of one of our Senior Designers:

To Be cliche, we’re a small nimble shop with A+ talent.  We insist on a fun, flexible environment where we learn and grow from each other. We look to produce portfolio work every time and we love to push the boundaries. Our main goal as designers is to constantly grow, never be stale.  We build off each other and of course are always trying to impress one and other.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in Photoshop/Illustrator
  • A strong online portfolio (send us your dribbbbbbble profile)
  • Passionate about design
  • You love pixel perfect UI
  • You should be able to show cool sites that make someone say “that’s cool”
  • Ability to create/understand site architecture
  • Decent people skills (Dave does most of the client chit chat, but still…)
  • Good write up skills: designing is awesome, selling it is also awesome.
  • You stay on point
  • You should speak some dialect of designese

Professional Experience:

  • 3+ years experience in an interactive agency setting (it’s all relative to your portfolio really)
  • Ability to execute different design styles
  • Ability to (if need) manage client communication and presentations confidently

Just send us an online portfolio of your work…  We’re basically looking for good work and a fit with our team really.

Toi launches the new Thiel Fellowship website

November 21, 2011 / New Work , Toi News /
Antonio

We are excited to announce the launch of the new Thiel Fellowship website! Through a great partnership with the Thiel Foundation and the creative process of rebranding their 20 Under 20 program, we are proud to see this online.

The Thiel Fellowship website takes an inside look at the 20 Under 20 fellows. Each fellow contains a profile about themselves with stats, videos, social media links, and latest press. Our goal is to tell their story and the fellowship’s journey with a content-rich portal with curated articles, photos, and videos as the program progresses for current and future fellows.

Stay tuned for a more in-depth case study of the Thiel Fellowship website!

The Customation Project

September 16, 2011 / Community /
Antonio

What are you doing Saturday, September 24? Nothing? Good!

We are co-hosting The Customation Project next saturday with our good friends at Proxart. The Customation Project is the first unofficial art show about custom, Disney Vinylmations. Featuring work by six artists, we are providing one of our studio offices as the venue to showcase their work.

As designers and creative people, it’s important we support our peers and artists in order to fulfill their passions. Building community is very important to us, which allows us to meet other creatives and be inspired by one another.

If you are in LA county, come on out to The Customation Project! We’ll have drinks, music, live paintings, and artists will be raffling off several vinyl figures (proceeds will go to Autism Speaks).

WHEN:
Saturday, September 24, 2011 @ 7pm – 10pm

WHERE:
22508 6th. Street Suite B
Santa Clarita, CA 91321

The Building of the new Toi Website

September 05, 2011 / Toi News /
Antonio

The new Toi website brings a solid depiction of what we do and who we are in a manageable format, free from clutter. Our goal was simple: make it bold, make it visual, make it easy. Far too many agencies in this industry focus on who, what, when, where, yadda yadda… page after page. Our focus is on our work with a glimpse of how we work and our personality through photography.

Our list of work exemplifies our best and most recent projects. Deciding who made the cut was a difficult decision since we’ve worked on so many great projects. With so many more in the pipeline!

Instead of writing a ton of copy about what we do and how awesome we are, we presented ourselves through the eyes of the camera and spent our copywriting energy on our clients: the case studies. Each piece of work in our Work page comes with a detailed case study about the project and our process for that particular piece.

So browse around, read our case studies, and our many photos found throughout the site. And welcome to our new blog! Our hope is to provide meaningful content related to Toi, our passions, our clients, and our inspirations.

Thankful

September 01, 2011 / Toi News /
Dave

It’s been a busy month at the Toi shop.  We’ve had the pleasure of working with so many great clients and projects all over the world!

We are so thrilled to be building the 20 under 20 Thiel Fellowship for The Thiel Foundation which is set to launch in October. Working with the foundation’s team in San Francisco has been phenomenal.

Part of our team was also present for the Vegas 2.0 tour which included people from Founders Fund, RK Adler, Welcome Mat, Summit Series and the magical Nicole P Johnson (thanks Nicole!).

We’re also getting ready to go to print on a rebrand of Athletic Greens.  Chris “the Kiwi” Ashenden is a truly inspiring person who’s bursting with energy and ideas. With over 1400% growth over the past year, Athletic Greens is clearly a hot supplement for athletes and health conscious folks.  We’re excited to help take the brand to the next level and even more excited about every meeting we have with Chris, Dave and the rest of the team. We had a blast having drinks with them on our last trip to San Francisco along with other good friends and even 4-Hour Body author, Tim Ferriss.

Another big shout out to Taylor Milsal for not only hosting the Toi principles, but also a fantastic dinner in the heart of San Francisco.  Taylor and NPJ assembled an all star group for good conversation and a yummy feast.  There were many Summit Series attendees (along with the founders parents), Founders Fund and even a few of our clients that evening.

We are constantly thankful for the people we meet on our travels, our clients, friends, Virgin America for making our travels a whole lot easier, and even you.
